A very happy birthday, indeed. Yesterday, industry analyst firm IDC, released their Q3 market share findings. Coming as little surprise these days, Android was found on three out of every four handsets (75%) that were sold during the third quarter of 2012, which is a staggering statistic for the OS being just four years old. Coming in at a very low second place is Apple, with a total of 26.9 million units shipped at 14.9% of the market.
Shown above is the chart for growth rate over the last four years. To sum it up, in 2008, Android held a total of 0.5% of the market. Now in 2012, it grasps 68.2% with shipment totals reaching 333.6 million plus to date. Google doesn’t intend to slow down either, with the launch of their brand new Nexus lineup. Exciting times for Android.
