Huawei CFO Arrested in Canada, Faces Extradition to US on Suspicion of Violating Iran Sanctions (Updated)

Huawei’s CFO, Meng Wanzhou, was arrested this past Saturday in Vancouver, Canada at the request of US law enforcement and is now facing extradition to the US on suspicion of violating US trade sanctions against Iran.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement to The Globe and Mail by the US Justice Department, with a bail hearing set to take place this Friday. At this time, the department spokesperson can’t share more details because Meng requested a publication ban.

Meng is the daughter of Huawei’s founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei, and also serves as deputy chair on Huawei’s board.

Update: December 11 – Huawei’s CFO has been granted bail by a Canadian court, allowing her to to stay in her Vancouver home as she awaits a possible extradition to the US.
