The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are by no means perfect phones. They are really good phones, but there were a handful of issues that accompanied each at launch that need to be addressed pretty quickly. One such issue is a memory management problem that only allowed 2-3 apps to remain running in the background during normal use. Google says they have some sort of related fix in the works that will arrive in the coming weeks.
Their statement on the issue is as follows:
We’re rolling out a software update in the coming weeks to keep background apps from being prematurely closed in certain situations.
OK, so they’ll fix a bug that was prematurely closing background apps in “certain situations.” Does that not mean during general use, but possibly because using things like the camera was causing other apps to close? I just want to be able to quickly switch between more than 2 apps without them fully refreshing, Google, is that too much to ask? I’ll take what I can get, though.
Google told 9to5Google that this memory fix won’t arrive in today’s November security patch. In other words, we’re probably looking to December’s patch before this is fixed. One month to go!
