Announced this morning, AT&T intends to launch 5G Evolution in Minneapolis by the end of this year, hopefully granting customers with select smartphones access to faster speeds while attending February’s Super Bowl.
AT&T is highlighting Minneapolis because of the Big Game, but actually, the carrier intends to have 5G Evolution up and running in 20 markets by year’s end. We’re pretty sure that includes two markets, Austin and Indianapolis, which already have 5G Evolution available in certain neighborhoods.
Now, if utilizing the 5G Evolution trifecta of technology (256 QAM, 4×4 MIMO, and 3-way carrier aggregation) is something you want to do, AT&T specifically lists the LG V30, Moto Z2 Force, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active as supported devices. If you don’t have one of those phones, don’t worry, because as more phones launch we are sure they will support this wireless connectivity tech, too.
Get ready for the speed, Minneapolitans.
