Amazon’s Echo line of products expanded this morning with the introduction of the Echo Look, a “hands-free camera and style assistant.” I know, all of you dudes in the building are asking if it’s April 1 today, and I can tell you that it isn’t. This is a real product. In fact, as silly as it may sound to you and I, I’m not sure it’s as silly as you think!
So what is Echo Look? It’s an Alexa-powered smart camera of sorts. You have all of the benefits of Amazon’s Alexa assistant, plus you get a depth-sensing, hands-free camera that features LED lights and some computer vision blurring stuff. The point of Echo Look is to take pictures of yourself (“Alexa, take a picture!”) to make sure your outfit is on point before heading out for the day. It’s also a tool for cataloging outfits, getting a 360-degree view of your outfit, sharing outfits with your favorite social networks, and asking for help in styling (the Echo Look app will try actually try to use fashion experts and an algorithm to tell you which outfit to wear). Watch the video below to get the full overview.
Again, this isn’t for the fashionless bro-dogs who hang out here and nerd out over 3rd part launchers and Tasker recipes. This is for fashion-forward people or those who may need some help with fashion.
For example, I just asked my wife to come check this thing out. She’s a fashion freak. Always knows the latest styles and trends, follows fashion bloggers, and generally knows her sh*t when it comes to style. Her reaction was, “That’s pretty cool, except for the gimmicky style check thing.” I’m paraphrasing, but she certainly saw how this could be cool. She already takes pictures of outfits, so why not have a hands-free way to do so that also catalogs those outfits and gives her all the angles as she’s trying to pick something out.
Anyways, a lot of people are clowning this thing today, probably because it’s not for them. And that’s fine! But, if you are ready to be the fashion god(dess), hit up that link below to request an invite. That’s right, you can’t just outright buy one yet.
