Announced this week, Google has acquired Cronologics, a smartwatch platform startup, for an undisclosed amount. Detailed by Cronologics, the team will be joining Google’s Android Wear department, possibly working to bring more voice-controlled actions to Wear.

Earlier this year, Cronologics introduced the CoWatch featuring integration with Amazon’s Alexa, allowing users to speak various commands. Should Google wish to build on Cronologics’ experience in that field, it seems reasonable that Google’s goal for Android Wear 2.0 and beyond is voice support for many 3rd-party platforms, just like Alexa. At this time, Google hasn’t dished out any details regarding the purchase.

Here is a large portion of a statement released by Cronologics regarding the acquisition.

We started Cronologics in 2014 as a platform for smart, diverse smartwatches. Today, we’re excited to announce the next phase of our journey — we are joining Google to help grow the portfolio of watches powered by Android Wear. We see strong alignment with Android Wear’s mission and look forward to working with our new colleagues at Google to continue pushing the frontier of wearable technology and smartwatches with Android Wear 2.0 and beyond.

In the below video, you can see the product Cronologics already has under its belt. Pretty nice, right?
