Jawbone Announces the UP3 and UP Move Fitness Bands

If the Microsoft Band does not strike your fancy, and you are not a fan of the new wearables from FitBit, perhaps Jawbone’s new fitness bands, the UP3 and UP MOVE, will appeal to you.

The UP MOVE, which marks Jawbone’s first foray into the low-range tracker market, takes clear aim at budget products like the Fitbug Orb and Misfit Flash. Priced at a palatable $50, it’s made of anodized aluminum and sports a fastenable clip, which, if you choose to wear it as a watch, can attach to slim and standard-sized Jawbone wristbands. In terms of electronics, the MOVE packs a Bluetooth radio for pairing with the companion UP App, a pedometer, an LED display that displays the time and wellness stats, and a replaceable battery that lasts up to six months. 

The $179.99 UP3 is the logical successor to Jawbone’s premium wearable, the UP24. It is, like the MOVE, constructed from aluminum. The UP3 is also water resistant up to 10 meters and has a battery life of up to seven days, although Jawbone says its other accouterments are what truly make it shine.

Leveraging a myriad of sensors which includes an accelerometer, ambient temperature monitor, and bioimpedance tool, the company states the tracker is able to more precisely measure your activity – the UP3 can, among other things, identify sleep stages, differentiate between workouts, and measure your heart rate.

Both the MOVE and UP3 will tap into a component of the UP App, Smart Coach. An algorithm-driven “guidance and insight system,” Smart Coach tries to intelligently make sense of data collected from the UP3 or MOVE, suggesting changes to exercise, sleeping, or eating habits.

The MOVE is available for pre-order today from Jawbone’s store in five colors – Slate, Ruby, Grape, Blue, and Black. Wrist straps are $14.99 individually, or $29.99 for three.

The UP3 will go on sale later this year.
