This morning, Amazon announced a new Fire TV product that aims to compete with Google’s Chromecast, called the Fire TV Stick. The device sports a dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, MIMO WiFi, and double the storage of the Chromecast, while still maintaining that same smallish dongle design that plugs directly into an HDMI port on the back of your TV. It also comes with a remote and companion app for navigation.
The Fire TV Stick is available for pre-order today and will ship November 19. It retails for $39, but if you are an Amazon Prime member, you can pick one up over the next 2 days for $19.
The point of the Fire TV Stick is a lot like the Chromecast – it gives you quick and easy access to movies, photos, TV shows, music and games at an affordable price. You will find access to services like Netflix, Prime Instant Video, Hulu Plus, WatchESPN, NBA Game Time, Prime Music, Pandora, Spotify, and more. You can use voice search to find things, mirror your device’s display, and get info on whatever you are watching through Amazon’s X-Ray service.
Again, it’s just like a Chromecast for the most part, though it might be a little more powerful.
