Not to be outdone by Google, Amazon is expanding its same-day delivery service to additional cities. The company announced that customers in Baltimore, Dallas, Indianapolis, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington DC may now purchase many items on Amazon and have them delivered in mere hours.
All shoppers in eligible areas have the option of same-day delivery 7 days a week, but Amazon Prime members predictably receive a discount. Shipping is normally $9.98 for the first item and $0.99 thereafter, but subscribers to Prime pay a one-time fee of $5.99.
Yesterday marks the first expansion of Amazon’s same-day delivery service since May, when the company introduced service to the San Francisco area. With a commanding presence in 11 markets, the program has handily outpaced encroaching services like Google Shopping Express and eBay Now, perhaps signaling an urgency for Amazon to retain market dominance before competitors roll out more broadly.
Have you been able to use this service yet? Fingers crossed for Portland, OR next.
