Amazon announced today that is has reached an agreement to acquire comiXology, a comic book service which is known for “revolutionizing the digital comics reading experience.” The service is actually a digital marketplace for comic book lovers, allowing users to feed their addiction on mobile devices, as well as desktops.

In the press release, both Amazon and comiXology spoke on the deal. The CEO and Founder of comiXology says, “ComiXology’s mission is to spread the love of comics and graphic novels in all forms. There is no better home for comiXology than Amazon to see this vision through. Working together, we look to accelerate a new age for comic books and graphic novels.”

David Naggar, Amazon Vice President of Content Acquisition and Independent Publishing states, “Amazon and comiXology share a passion for reinventing reading in a digital world. We’ve long admired the passion comiXology brings to changing the way we buy and read comics and graphic novels. We look forward to investing in the business, growing the team, and together, bringing comics and graphic novels to even more readers.”

No value has yet been placed on the acquisition, but details may arise at a later time, once the deal is finalized in the second quarter of 2014. For those worried that their beloved comic service might change, no one should worry quite yet.

For now, comiXology HQ will remain in New York and business will take place as usual.
