Intel 64-bit Bay Trail Processors to Power New Line of Tablets Coming This Spring

During an earnings call with investors, Intel’s CEO gave word that consumers should be on the lookout for new Android tablets hitting the market, powered by the new Bay Trail 64-bit processor. The CEO mentioned that the tablets should be around in the spring time, so we could be seeing a few goodies shown off during MWC this year.

If you will recall at last year’s MWC, Intel announced its dual-core Atom line of chips, which was used in one of ASUS’ Fonepad devices. Up until now, the 32-bit counterparts of this chip have been pretty limited to just Windows tablets, but it appears that Intel changed up its focus to other operating systems sometime during development of the silicon. 

As for speculation on what tablets we could see the Bay Trail get thrown into, your guess is as good as ours. But with that said, there aren’t many makers out there who are producing popular Android tablets. There is ASUS, Acer, LG, and maybe just a few others that don’t have commitments to their own in-house chips like Samsung has.

64-bit is definitely making its way to Android this year.
