Just over a year ago, Google introduced the Google Play Points program to help users earn points from purchases of digital content that could then be used for more content, including Google Play Credit. At launch, it was only available in Japan and Korea, but today, is going live in the US.
To freely sign-up, you’ll swipe out the side menu in Google Play and look for the “Play Points” option. Once that option is available, you’ll then be able to start earning points when you purchase items.
Google says that you can earn points when you buy in-app items, apps, games, movies, books, subscriptions, and more. During special events, you may see up to 4x the points too, plus there are bonus points available from featured apps and games. Once you have accumulated points, you can use those towards discounts or special items or you can redeem them for Google Play credit to be used on almost anything (movies, books, games, apps, etc.).
There is a tier system here (Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum), where you can earn more points per $1 spent. To start, you’ll earn 1 point for every $1. As a one-time bonus, Google is handing out 3x moire points for the first seven days. As you earn points within a calendar year, that’s how you level up to new tiers.
