The two new NVIDIA SHIELD TV devices were announced this morning and are already available for purchase. We’ll have our review up later today, but for those of you who own a SHIELD and aren’t quite sure that you want to upgrade, I’ve got remote news for you.
The new SHIELD remote, which Tim tells me is as awesome as I had hoped it would be, works with all SHIELD TV products and will be available for purchase later this year for $29.99. I’m telling you that you may not need to upgrade your SHIELD TV and can instead just get the improved remote to replace the awful little remotes that you likely currently hate.
What’s new in the remote? You have all the buttons now (volume controls, fast-forward/rewind/pause/play, power, menu, etc.), including a programmable button. It lights up when you need it to, there’s a Netflix button, and you can find it easily should you lose it. Oh, it runs on AAA batteries and should last 6 months, so there’s no stupid watch battery drawer that doesn’t open or a rechargeable battery that will die a year in.
Once you can buy the stand-alone SHIELD remote, we’ll let you know.
