Google and Bose announced this morning that the Google Assistant is coming to a number of Bose smart speakers and soundbars through a software update.
The Bose Home Speaker 500, Bose Soundbar 500 and 700, and a new speaker called the Bose Home Speaker 300 (above), will all get Google Assistant. Once updated, you’ll be able to fire up the Assistant using the “Hey Google” hotword before asking it to perform tasks. In other words, they should perform like any other smart speaker with Google Assistant.
The automatic update will begin rollout starting today to supported speakers. To begin using Assistant, you’ll head into the Bose Music app where you should find a “Voice Settings” area that’ll let you select Google Assistant and walk-through a setup. If you aren’t seeing that, you may need to wait until that update arrives.
If you are buying a new Bose smart speaker, setting up Assistant will be a part of the setup process.
