The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G has arrived at Verizon. The pre-order period is done and you can walk into a Verizon store today to grab one if you want to own the biggest, fastest of the Galaxy S10 devices. Just keep in mind that your chances of locking onto a next-gen 5G network are incredibly slim, so rushing out to buy one immediately might not be the smartest decision you have ever made.
To recap, the Galaxy S10 5G sports a 6.7″ display, 4 rear cameras, 4500mAh battery, 8GB RAM, and choices of either 256GB or 512GB storage. It costs $1,300 or $1,400 depending on the storage amount, or you can go with a monthly payment plan and pay at least $54.16/mo.
Verizon currently has the “limited time” exclusive on this version and will use it to try to get people excited about their 5G network. Unfortunately, Verizon 5G is still only in parts of Minneapolis and Chicago. If you live anywhere else in this country, you cannot currently use this phone and attach to Verizon’s 5G network.

Now, that’ll change before the end of the year as Verizon tries to fire up 30 or so markets (here are the next 20). Still, even with a rollout to more markets, you shouldn’t expect to connect to Verizon 5G very often. Current wireless 5G is mostly setup as 5G mmW, a type of 5G that’s meant for cities, doesn’t cover much distance, and works best when you are standing out in the open with a direct line of sight to it. If you aren’t constantly meeting those requirements, you’ll probably be on 4G LTE or with a not-that-impressive “5G” signal.
Buy if you’d like, but I’d suggest holding off on anything 5G-related for another year.
