Sprint, after announcing a couple of 5G-ready handsets this weekend, said to expect their first 5G markets to go live in May of this year. They are starting small, but Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, and Kansas City will get lit-up first.
After that, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix, and Washington DC are also on the schedule to get 5G during the first half of 2019.

Will you be able to access that Sprint 5G network (combination of 2.5GHz and Massive MIMO) once it is live? You’ll need a 5G phone, of course, like the new LG V50 ThinQ. And if you live in one of these first markets with a capable phone, it’ll depend on the market. Sprint says that 5G coverage in New York will be limited to around 30 square miles in Midtown and lower Manhattan, but that they could have 230 square miles of 5G in Dallas. In total, they expect there to be 1,000 square miles of 5G coverage throughout their first nine markets.
Can you taste 5G yet? Nope? Sorry.
