With 2019 only days away, the 5G announcements are showing no signs of slowing. After acknowledging that it will carry the same Samsung 5G device that Verizon plans to offer in the first half of next year, AT&T says they’ll have another in the 2nd half of 2019 that’ll connect to even more 5G fun.
This device will be made by Samsung, just like the soon-to-arrive phone, only it’ll connect to both 5G mmWave and sub-6 GHz. The first phone will only connect to 5G mmWave. That’s important to note, as mmWave technology has some pretty major flaws (easily blocked, doesn’t travel far, etc.), while sub-6 GHz could and should make connectivity less of a hassle.
AT&T says that they’ve been “enhancing” their LTE network by installing software upgradeable sub-6 GHz radios throughout the past year and will continue to do so into 2019.
