August, makers of smart home tech, introduced new integrations with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant this week.
Specifically for its smart locks and video doorbells, users will now be able to lock/unlock an August Smart Lock by speaking a command, then following up with a secret code. This code means even if you ask your Google Home to unlock your door, it won’t do so unless the secret code is spoken. This is a good thing. Additionally, if someone rings your doorbell, Alexa and Google Home will now announce someone is at the door.
If you’re looking to get this up and running with your Google Home, follow the below instructions.
To enable this, open your Google Assistant and go to Settings > Home control. Then link your August account to Google to activate the visitor announcement feature. You will need to unlink and relink if you’re already connected to Google Home.
If you want this to go along with your Alexa household, just enable August’s Alexa Smart Home Skill and then use the Alexa app to activate the announcements and routines.
