Starting tomorrow, August 29, Google Assistant will be able to lock your Nest x Yale smart lock.
Back when this product launched, we assumed Google Assistant control would be available, but sadly, it wasn’t. The wait hasn’t been too long, though, and now anyone with Google Assistant can lock their smart lock with either a smartphone or Google Home product by only using their voice. No more opening the Nest app and manually locking the lock.
With this support, users can also set your door to lock inside of a Routine, which you create from inside the Google Home app. Let’s say you’re going to bed and tell your Google Home, “Good night,” you can have your lights turn off and your door locked on command.
Something to keep in mind, you can only lock the door with Assistant, not unlock it. You know, because that wouldn’t be smart.
In addition, Google announced that Assistant is also getting integration with Nest Cam, allowing you to pull up your video feeds from your smartphone.
