UPDATE October 1: Google says they’ve fixed this issue with the October security patch
The issue appears to be related to 3rd party chargers that are non-Power Delivery (PD) that used to deliver fast charging speeds, according to a statement sent to The Verge from Google. If you use a Power Delivery charger, like the one that comes in the box with the Pixel or Pixel XL, rapid charging still works.
Google didn’t say why a non-PD charger would stop rapid charging, only that they are verifying a fix that should be ready “in the coming weeks.” If you own a Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL, your charging experience should be normal, even with Pie.
We’ll let you know once that update is ready.
