Essential continues to impress us with quick Android updates, even as the company’s future in phones remains a mystery. Today, shortly after Google announced both July security patches and a new Android P beta, Essential is rolling out both to the Essential Phone.
The July security patch will arrive as Android 8.1.0 and build OPM1.180104.267. It includes the newest patches as well as Android Auto stability fixes. It should be live any minute now if it isn’t already.
As for the new Android P beta, it’s looking like Android P Beta 2, build PPR1.180610.030. This 290.2MB update includes the July security patches, similar Android Auto fixes, and the “latest Google Android P code integration.” It is 100% live as I just pulled it.
To grab updates for your Essential Phone, head into Settings>System>System update.
