AT&T has completed its acquisition of Time Warner, following a US court’s approval earlier this week.
AT&T now owns Warner Bros., HBO, and Turner, as well as DirecTV and their wireless and fiber networks. They own a lot of sh*t that you deal with on a daily basis.
They’ll use all of the content they now own to distribute content across platforms with ease. As AT&T said in their battle with the Department of Justice, they also believe this move allows them to compete in the future because they can gather boatloads of data on you and then serve ads to you in a variety of ways. They also more than likely just opened up the opportunity for a whole bunch of additional mega mergers.
I don’t have a hot-as-hell take on this because I do not specialize in mergers and acquisitions. For more, read this, this, and this.
