Yahoo Messenger to Shut Down on July 17

Announced today, Yahoo is shutting down Messenger on July 17, 2018.

Once this date comes, you’ll no longer be able to access the service or retrieve your chats from it. However, should you want to download your chats now, you can do so by going here. This site will be available to Messenger users for the next 6 months, according to Yahoo.

Here’s what Yahoo said about why it’s closing Messenger.

As the communications landscape continues to change over, we’re focusing on building and introducing new, exciting communications tools that better fit consumer needs.

As for what Yahoo recommends you do following the loss of Messenger, they say you should give Squirrel a try, its invite-only group messaging app that you can request an invite for here.

RIP, Messenger! I’ll never forget the days of a/s/l!
