Report: LG is Supplying Google With Notched OLED Displays for Pixel 3 XL

LG supplied Google with OLED panels for last year’s Pixel 2 XL. Let’s just say there was a bit of drama concerning that particular panel. According to a new report from Korea, Google is going to give it another try, with LG chosen to supply Mountain View with notched OLED panels for this year’s Pixel 3 XL.

An unnamed official for LG Display is attributed in saying, “We have maintained close ties with Google and the volume will not be much different from the previous one.”

If you were still thinking the renders and screen protector shots we’ve seen hit the web don’t truly encapsulate what the upcoming Pixels could look like, it is specifically mentioned many times in this report that these OLED panels will feature a top notch. You can react to that however you see fit, but since Kellen and I have both been using phones with top notches this year, we can assure you that it’s not as bad as you might want to believe.

While it’s a relief to hear that Google will probably use OLED for the Pixel 3 XL, our fingers are crossed that these panels aren’t met with the same amount of internet fury last year’s received.
