One of the first things we do whenever setting up a new Android phone is enable Trusted Places from within the Smart Lock menu. When enabled, this option keeps your phone unlocked automatically whenever you’re inside of a certain range of an address you determine, such as your home.
In the early hours of this morning, reddit users discovered that the option has been removed from the Smart Lock menu. Google has yet to share information on why it has been removed completely, but as Kellen and I have both witnessed, as well as plenty of others on Google’s product forums, the service has become rather unreliable lately.
It seems completely within reason to think Google simply removed the option until they get it working properly.
We’ll keep you posted as this story develops. In the meantime, don’t freak out if you see the option disappear from your Smart Lock menu.
UPDATE 5/25/18: It’s back and still barely works if at all.
