Smart Compose for Gmail Writes Your Emails for You

Yesterday during the Google I/O keynote, Google unveiled Smart Compose for Gmail. To sum it up, AI will be writing your emails from here on out, so don’t worry too much if you can’t come up with anything clever to say in your messages.

In actuality, this new feature uses artificial intelligence to help you draft messages from beginning to end. When enabled, you will compose your email normally, but Smart Compose will work in the background to offer suggestions. When you see a suggestion you want, just hit the Tab button on your keyboard.

What we saw yesterday was Smart Compose write an entire email and it seemed to be quite contextually aware of what it was writing. We’ve cued up the video below to show you what happened.

According to Google, Smart Compose will appear in the new Gmail for consumers, then will be made available for G Suite customers in the coming months.

If you want to give Smart Compose a try, ensure you’re running the new Gmail. Once done, you can enable it via the settings menu.
