Sony has struggled in the US smartphone market for years due to a number of factors. Their lack of a carrier partner, stale design language, and often delayed releases haven’t helped get their phones back on the map. This year, that has changed some with the release of the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact, two phones that up the design game for the first time in years and arrive before we’ve all forgotten about them.
The Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact are now up for pre-order in the US at Best Buy, with arrival scheduled for next Friday, April 20. Best Buy has all of the colors you might want too, including the tasty greens, pinks, and silvers, as well as black.
For pricing, these phones certainly aren’t cheap, but they are mostly packed full of the most current specs. The XZ2 runs $799.99, while the XZ2 Compact will cost you $649.99. These phones will work perfectly one AT&T and T-Mobile, but neither is listed as working on Sprint or Verizon. We were told that the XZ2 Compact would be certified for Verizon use, though.
UPDATE: Verizon has the XZ2 Compact listed on its Open Development site as being certified. If you do pick one up, it should work just fine.
Any takers? We’ll certainly get our hands on both to give Sony a good spin for the first time in years. We are actually pretty excited about it too.
