If you aren’t big on the augmented reality lingo that is circulating, ARCore is Android’s SDK for creating AR applications. As of right now, ARCore 1.0 is only supported on a handful of devices, such as the Pixel phones, OnePlus 5, LG V30, and the 2017 models of the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lineups. That is soon changing, though.
According to a comment left on Github from a member of the ARCore team, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will soon receive support for ARCore, but in addition, an update for the platform is also coming.
The team member specifies that the launch should take place in the coming weeks.
With ARCore support inbound for these sure-to-be-popular devices, adoption rates for ARCore should go up, meaning more AR experiences for us end users to enjoy. If you haven’t checked out ARCore for yourself on one of your supported phones, check it out on Google Play here.
Cheers Javier Ceballos-Leon!
