Google Assistant Arrives for Android TV Platform, Including NVIDIA SHIELD TV

The wait is over! After being detailed at CES in January of this year, Google Assistant is rolling out to the Android TV platform. Whether you have a Smart TV powered by Android TV or own an NVIDIA SHIELD TV, you can now utilize the power of Google Assistant right from the big screen in your living room.

What does having the Assistant mean for Android TV? Here are some of the things you’ll be able to do:

  • Play content: “Play Stranger Things on Netflix.”
  • Discover content: “Search YouTube for Jimmy Kimmel.”
  • Get answers: “Tell me about Jurassic Park?”
  • Set the right mood: “Dim the lights.”
  • Get ready for your day: “How long will it take to get to work?”

Specifically for SHIELD TV owners, operating Google Assistant is very easy. Explained by NVIDIA, “There are two ways to trigger your Google Assistant – by pressing the microphone button on the remote (the SHIELD button on the controller), or with a hands-free command: you can just say, ‘Ok Google,’ from within shouting distance of the SHIELD controller. SHIELD controller’s built-in microphone and low-power ambient listening capabilities activate your Google Assistant with just your voice.”

If you own a SHIELD TV, this update is now available. The update is labeled as Experience Upgrade 6.0, so get to downloading and installing!

Additionally, Google Assistant will show up to Sony Bravia TVs with Android TV in the “coming months.”
