This week is huge for remaining fans and players of Pokémon GO. In an announcement posted this morning, the game is receiving a massive update, one that includes 80+ new Pokémon, new evolutions, plus updated encounter mechanics.

Set to rollout later this week, players will have the opportunity to catch Pokémon Gen 2 creatures, as well as utilize new berries for capturing the aforementioned monsters. According to the press release, there are now Nanab Berries and Pinap Berries. As described, “Giving a Pokémon a Nanab Berry will slow its movements, making it easier to catch. The Pinap Berry doubles the amount of Candy you’ll receive if your next catch attempt succeeds.”

As for the updated encounter gameplay, Niantic details that players will notice different behaviors when a Pokémon encounter begins. While the developers don’t go into great detail here, they also specify that you will, “notice the addition of new item carousels that allow you to select Berries and Poké Balls directly from the encounter screen.”
