Twitter Now Has an Android TV App for Streaming Video and Whatnot

Twitter now has an Android TV app, bringing all of its amazing video content straight to your living room’s HDTV. By saying amazing, I’m being somewhat sarcastic, considering Twitter’s video content is only as good as the content that its users provide to followers.

While Twitter does have agreements to stream Thursday Night Football and plenty of election coverage, the rest of the media available on the site is pretty much all user generated.

Once you’ve booted up Twitter on Android TV, you are met with a single channel – that channel being whatever account Twitter wants to highlight. For me, it was Bloomberg. Below that, you are met with something similar to Twitter’s Moments timeline. Essentially, it’s a hodgepodge of videos based on news and other current happenings. Then, below that, you have “popular” Periscopes that you can stream. Oh gee, thanks, Twitter. Periscope on my big screen is just what I needed. /s

It should be noted that no account is needed to use Twitter for Android TV, meaning you won’t see access to your timeline of tweets, and you can’t even react to what you’re watching via the Twitter for Android TV app. To put it lightly, I’d say this app is a good start, but could certainly use a few more features down the road.

If Twitter for Android TV is something you think you might enjoy, have at it.
