Well, Then: Verizon Says It’s Pixel Phones Will Get Updates When Google’s Do!

verizon pixel updates

Ready for some potentially great news? According to ArsTechnica, Verizon reached out this morning to inform them of a possible change to their approach to updating phones, Google’s new Pixel and Pixel XL, specifically. Verizon said that they “will not stand in the way” of any major updates that Google pushes and that owners of Verizon variants will see updates when Google’s unlocked Pixels see them.

Whhaaaaaaaat!

Verizon also said that “all operating system and security updates to the Pixel devices will happen in partnership with Google,” but maybe most importantly, that “when Google releases an update, Verizon phones will receive the same update at the same time. (much like iOS updates).” This is not a joke. Verizon will treat the Pixel phones just like it does iOS updates, in a way, by allowing the Verizon Pixel phones to get updates immediately when Google releases them.

You may recall that Google said last week that Verizon was in control of the big system updates and we all collectively groaned while banging our heads on tables because we assumed that meant slower updates. This is a big change, and you know what, Verizon should be given a little golf clap for it.

On a related note, Verizon confirmed that it will pre-load Go90, My Verizon, and Verizon Messages on the phone, but that all three can be uninstalled.

So, who is running to pre-order?
