Motorola Announces the Moto Z Play, the Affordable Z Family Member

The newest member of the Moto Z family is now official as the Moto Z Play. As you can imagine, since the other two Z devices are high-end, this is the more affordable little brother with a focus on price and battery life while not skimping on the other specs.

The Moto Z Play arrives at Verizon on September 8 for $17 per month with a device payment plan or $408 full retail. If you want an unlocked version, you’ll be able to buy one for $449.99 through pre-orders on September 15, with arrivals happening some time in October. The unlocked model is GSM-only.

In terms of specs and features, you are looking at a phone with similar size and dimensions to the Z and Z Force. That makes sense, of course, because all of the current and future Moto Mods will work with the Z Play, just as they do with those original Z devices. You also get a 5.5-inch FHD AMOLED display (1080p), Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor (octa-core), 3GB RAM, 32GB storage with 2TB SD support, 3510mAh battery with fast charging, 16MP f2.0 rear camera (with phase detection and laser autofocus), 5MP front camera, front-ported speaker, water repellent coating, NFC, USB Type-C port, fingerprint reader, and yes, a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The phone will run Android 6.0.1 out of the box and include all of the best Moto features like Display, Voice, and Actions.

This phone is very much a slightly lesser Moto Z, but with a decent price.
