Last week, Google’s Hiroshi Lockheimer teased via Twitter that a new update would arrive on Nexus devices this week with a whole bunch of new and updated emoji on board. Today, that update is official as Android 6.0.1. And yep, it includes a bunch of new emoji, which we showed you last week.
Outside of the new and updated emoji, the update doesn’t bring much. Ars Technica got a hold of it and said that one of the noteworthy changes is a navigation button layout tweak on tablets (Edit: Or that could only be for the Pixel C, not any others), where the recent apps button moves to the far bottom right corner, while the back and home buttons slide over to the left. Google must think you want to use your thumbs…hopefully you do.
The update will rollout this week on Nexus phones. Since this is Android 6.0.1, that should include the Nexus 5, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9, and Nexus Player. As those updates arrive, we’ll be sure to share the news.
UPDATE: Factory images now available!
