Haha, What: Sharp Made a 5.5-Inch 4K LCD With 806ppi

Sharp, producer of LCD panels for all sorts of electronics, has created a 5.5-inch 4K LCD display that one can only assume will go inside smartphones. 4K display, in a smartphone. What. The. FHell.

We are talking a resolution of 3840×2160 and 806 pixels per inch. Your currently comparable QHD display only has a resolution of 2560×1440 and 538ppi. Why would anyone need that kind of resolution in a smallish, 5.5-inch display? I get that we probably asked that about 1080p displays and QHD displays, but 4K? Pixels were unidentifiable at 1080p. At QHD, we just sort of said, “In the never-ending battle for spec supremacy, we should have expected this to happen.” But, again, 4K?

I guess if Spaceball One jumped from light to ridiculous to ludicrous speed, we might as well do it with displays. It’s official, Sharp has gone plaid.

Sharp is expecting to mass produce these new UHD displays in 2016. Hopefully, they are efficient.
