A number of you have expressed interest in purchasing an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S6, even though Samsung hasn’t officially announced one for the US. I can’t say I blame you for wanting the carrier-removed variant, as it doesn’t contain (as much) bloatware and can be taken to any of your favorite GSM carriers without first needing someone to unlock it. These also tend to be the versions that get the first wave of updates as they are pushed out by Samsung. Unlocked phones are awesome.
Without a US model announced (and their likely won’t ever be one), we have to turn to sellers on eBay who bring over unlocked international variants. Today, probably for a limited time, you can grab a 32GB model in Black, White, or Gold for $699. This is the SM-G920i variant that, at least according to this listing, works perfectly fine on both AT&T and T-Mobile LTE. The phone supports LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17. It also appears to support both carrier’s HSPA frequencies.
Now, before you scoff at that price, understand that AT&T and T-Mobile are each selling the Galaxy S6 without a contract for $685 and $680, respectively. But with those, in order to unlock them, you would not only have to pay full price, but also keep them active at those carriers for up to 60 days at AT&T and 40 days at T-Mobile.
Folks wanting an unlocked Galaxy S6, here is your option.
Cheers Cory!
