We now have the Samsung Galaxy S6 in our possession. I’m not sure I can put into words how ready for this moment I am. You see, we feel a little screwed by Samsung for not hosting a US satellite press event during MWC for this phone and its brother, like they have done every year for every phone as far back as I can remember, so this is, as odd as this sounds, the first time I have placed my hands on one. The excitement truly cannot be contained.
As you all know, I have been critical of Samsung over the last year or so, particularly because of the safe approach they took with the Galaxy S5. That safe approach turned out to be a terrible one for the Korean electronics giant, so as you can imagine, we were quite intrigued by their choice to do something completely out of the their norm with the S6 and S6 Edge. The hell with it – “intrigued” is such a pansy, safe word – we are absolutely f*****g excited about the complete 180 that Samsung has flipped in 2015. They have given us two of what could be the most premium smartphones ever made because they focused on quality and premium builds and packing in as much useful hardware features as they possibly could. They also went as far away from “safe” as they possibly could.
Now, we still have to review both the S6 and S6 Edge, so let’s not run around calling these the greatest phones quite yet. With that said, in my first few minutes unboxing the S6, I can’t help but express my pleasure in what Samsung has built here. This phone feels amazing. This phone feels like the best phone I have picked up in, well, maybe ever.
I’m excited to start full testing (sorry, HTC One M9, you are getting put down for a bit) to see if the performance really is improved, how good the camera is, if the battery can hold up, and whether or not Samsung has fully redeemed itself.
Man, this is going to be fun. Here is our unboxing!
