Setting a company record, Motorola sold over 10 million handsets last quarter, equalling a 118% increase year-over-year, according to Lenovo’s latest earnings report. While it would be nice to give credit to the company’s flagship, the Moto X here in the US, that would likely be naive.
Moto’s mid-range game has been boosted thanks to the Moto G and Moto E, both of which appear to be doing very well among budget-minded buyers and overseas in Asia and in South America. In a earnings report, Lenovo only sees Motorola going up, as the company is now set to re-enter the Chinese smartphone market, headlined by the Moto X Pro.
Lenovo feels that Motorola’s brand power in the US is what will help separate itself from other Chinese manufacturers such as Xiaomi and Huawei. Not only does Lenovo intend to maintain Motorola’s role as a global smartphone player, but also plans to heavily emulate Xiaomi’s Internet distribution model, according to Reuters.
2015 should be a big year for Motorola.
