According to an early report this morning out of Bloomberg, we may have new news on HTC’s plans for their March 1 MWC event. The report claims that not only will we see a new flagship phone from the Taiwanese company, but a smartwatch should be a part of the party as well.
Bloomberg, thanks to information from a “person familiar with the matter,” states that the new HTC flagship is currently codenamed “M9,” which certainly makes sense as a codename since the original HTC One was codenamed M7 and last year’s One (M8) was unsurprisingly codenamed M8. The phone, if this report is to be believed, will sport a 20MP rear camera coupled with a front shooter that utilizes HTC’s UltraPixel technology. The device will also run Qualcomm’s newest Snapdragon 810 processor and resemble last year’s One (M8) “in size and design,” with gold, gray and silver options to boot.
That information, outside of “M9” being the codename, lines up perfectly with previous leaks.
On a watch front, this would be HTC’s first watch. Of course, as you know, HTC was initially shooting to launch its first watch at the end of 2014, but because there apparently isn’t currently a “strong reason to wear one every day,” it was canceled. Maybe the company’s new Under Armour partnership has changed their view on that, as Bloomberg states that the watch will link with UA’s new fitness service that was announced at CES.
Here’s to hoping it isn’t square.
