Today at a NYC press event, Sony revealed their next partnership with Verizon Wireless with the announcement of the Xperia Z3v. This new device comes with a bevy of impressive features including a 3200mAh battery with wireless charging and Remote Play capability. The press event to unveil the device was filled with motivational videos and talk about empowering the next generation of users to be able to connect, create and share moments. There were live demos on stage and they even gave us a release date (which Android manufacturers usually have trouble with). But is the device worth all the fanfare?
The Sony Xperia Z3v contains a 5.2″ FHD display, 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage (with micro SD slot support up to 128GB), 20.7MP camera, and a 3200mAh battery with wireless charging built-in.
I spent a good 30 minutes playing around with the Z3v; holding it, taking pictures of journalists (and of the phone itself), using it and admiring it. They had a booth exclusively to show off pictures taken by the device, touting how great the camera is. After looking at the shots I was able to take with it, I was not impressed. I would consider the room to be poorly lit, so it might be better in outside shots.
The device feels premium and well-built, but slippery and not as comfortable as some other phones like the HTC Desire Eye or the Moto X. It’s a great effort from Sony, given their minimal US presence and they’ve packed in some awesome features. Question of the day is, would you pick this over another phone like the Moto X or Note 4 or DROID Turbo? I know what my answer is, but we’d love to hear yours in the comments below.
