In an interview with The Canadian Press to promote his new book about Google and to announce a $1.5 million grant to Actua, Google’s Eric Schmidt talked through a number of wide ranging topics. Of course, we tend to focus on the mobile or Android-related stuff that Big “E” mentions from time to time, something he graced us with yet again. The interviewer asked Schmidt what his current phone was because Canadians like to talk about Blackberry still, and Schmidt has been a fan of Blackberry for years. While Eric admitted that he still carries around a Blackberry, he noted that his current phone is the “Motorola Razr X.”
Umm, what?
As you and I know, that phone doesn’t exist. So, there are two ways we could take this – 1) Eric Schmidt just outed the name of a yet-to-be-released phone from Motorola or; 2) Someone in this conversation is confused. I would lean towards the latter.
Motorola has already announced the new Moto X (2nd gen), a phone that happens to be a follow-up to the original Moto X, which was a phone that Eric Schmidt proudly showed off to the world before it was announced last year. He was also a big part of press day for last year’s Moto X. The chances of Schmidt using the new Moto X are probably pretty high. Also, we know that the next phone coming from Motorola will be the DROID TURBO, followed by the Nexus 6. We know nothing of a phone called the “Razr X.”
Again, probably some confusion either on Schmidt’s part as he continues on a never-ending book tour or by the interviewer who was probably taking notes on a Blackberry.
