Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Hands-on

Not only did Samsung announce its newest large-sized Galaxy Note 4 flagship this morning, but the company also unveiled the Galaxy Note Edge. The Edge is much like your usual Note product, with a large 5.6″ display, but it brings additional screen real estate with an added curved edge on its right side.

With the curved edge, owners can add in application shortcuts, Twitter feeds, stocks, sports scores and much more through a dedicated settings menu. An SDK has also been made available for developers who wish to take advantage of the added space.

Besides its odd shape, the device features a quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 5.6″ QHD display, 16MP rear-facing camera, Bluetooth 4.0, 3,000mAh battery, microSD slot, 32GB or 64GB of storage, and runs Android 4.4.4.

From my very brief moment with the device, I find it hard to imagine Samsung has major plans for this device, except for saying, “Look what we did with our display technology.” Adding a constant Twitter feed to my phone doesn’t seem necessary, and the same goes for the app shortcuts. There is nothing wrong with traditional shortcuts, so putting them on the side of the phone seems rather odd to me. We shall see how this phone does if Samsung decides to put in a marketing effort.
