A few weeks back, Foursquare announced that they would be breaking their application into two separate ones. Foursquare found that a lot of users hopped into its app to check where a restaurant was or to read reviews, but were not using many of the social aspects. Foursquare thought there was still value in those social pieces, so the new Swarm application was born.
Swarm takes all of the location-sharing aspects that were present in Foursquare, then brings them over to this new app. Once logged in, you will be able to turn on location sharing to see which of the people on your friends list are near you, allowing the two of you to make plans together.
Furthermore, the app allows you to suggest things to do, then your friends can decide to say yes or no to those plans. The addition of neighborhood sharing also lets you know when a friend of yours wanders into your hood so you can meet up with them.
We know how most of our readers feel about having another social network to buy into, but if you were a fan of Foursquare’s location sharing, Swarm is definitely worth checking out.
