If you have not yet noticed, wearables are the “next big thing.” That is why companies like Motorola, Sony, and Samsung will be vying for your wrist this summer with a virtual onslaught of new athletic bands and smartwatches. One of the first companies out of the gate this year is LG, which announced that its Lifeband Touch fitness device will go on sale May 18 in the US.
As LG explained earlier this year at CES, the Lifeband Touch is a fitness device first and foremost. Although it can pair with your smartphone via Bluetooth 4.0 to display notifications, control music playback, and show time on its OLED screen, the Lifeband’s primary function is to record data such as your walking and/or running speed, steps, and pace.
Importantly, the device is compatible with most Android smartphones and iPhones, and even works with third-party apps like RunKeeper and MapMyFitness.
LG’s Heart Rate Earphones will go on sale the same day. In addition to playing music (obviously), they monitor your heart rate and blood flow while you are working out. The earbuds can be used either alone or in conjunction with the Lifeband Touch.
The Lifeband Touch and LG Heart Rate Earphones will retail for $149.99 and 179.99, respectively. Look for them on store shelves soon.
