If you have been in the market for a home entertainment media server-type device, you may want to take a look at Samsung’s HomeSync, which has been on-sale for a few days at Best Buy for the ridiculously low price of $99. The device typically retails for $299.
HomeSync is being sold as a home cloud server/media center, with 1TB of storage, that can hold all of your family photos and videos, but also be used as a media hub. It can be used to play Android games on your big screen TV, to watch movies through Google Play or other services, or as a partitioned server for multiple accounts to use for storage.
I can’t say that I have personally used the product (but did just order a couple), however, at $99, it seems like a much better option than some of the other media hub type devices. At $99, and with 1TB of storage and access to all sorts of Android products (including Google Play), on paper it seems like it puts something like the brand new Fire TV to shame.
The general specs are as follows – 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 2GB RAM, 1TB of storage, HDMI-out, optical audio, USB 3.0 ports, and compatibility with a number of Android devices. On that note, you will want to check to see if your current phone is compatible with the HomeSync app on Google Play before purchasing. Samsung recently expanded compatibility outside of Galaxy devices, but the list isn’t exactly incredibly expansive. For example, the new One (M8) and old One (M7) are showing as compatible for me, but the Moto X and Nexus 5 are not.
