In day three of its most recent string of UnCarrier moves, T-Mobile has announced today that it is killing off overage charges for its customers and encouraging AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint to do the same with a Change.org petition. T-Mobile calls overage penalties “one of the most reviled wireless industry practices,” saying that “in May for the June billing cycle, T-Mobile is abolishing domestic overages.”
As far as the petition goes, we are finding it a bit odd that after spending the last year personally trashing on its competitors, that T-Mobile now wants them on their team. Of course, by playing this card, they can once again point the finger at Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint as being the bad guy if they don’t follow along and join the petition. Slick move, I guess.
T-Mobile began phasing out overage penalties with the launch of Simple Choice plans, but this appears to be a move to eliminate the rest from customers who are not on those plans.
The petition can be found here.
