Top 5 Android Games: March 2014

We are back again with the Top 5 Android Games for the month of March here in 2014. It was actually a really great month for mobile gaming on Android, with the release of a few titles which will undoubtedly go into some type of mobile gaming Hall of Fame.

This month, we saw the release of Cut the Rope 2 (hooray, Om Nom is back!), Threes for Android, as well as Smash Hit. We are sure that these games have been played by many of our readers, so we hope you agree with our list. If you don’t, let us know which games would have made it better.

Check out our top 5 games for Android below.

1. Threes ($1.99)

With the launch of Threes onto Android, our favorite mobile platform has yet another fantastic puzzler/brain workout game; full of numbers, great music, and silly voices. In Threes, you match pairing numbers to make bigger numbers. As you play on, the board fills up with 1’s and 2’s, challenging you to make as many pairs as you can before you have no more moves to make.

The game is fun, yet challenging. And as stated, they apply little personalities to the numbers you make, so every now and then you get to hear a few cute voices while playing. On top of the voices, the game actually features a pretty decent soundtrack, with a melody that easily gets stuck in your head.

The game costs only $1.99 on Google Play, with a very high replayability rate. Go check it out.

2. Smash Hit (Free)

Another game which hit Google Play to super positive reviews was Smash Hit, a title which actually surprised the heck out of me. At first, I thought it was too easy, but then once you progress to the later levels, it’s easy to see why many would rage quit.

The object is to throw steel balls at glass objects that block your route, while also tossing balls at glass pyramids to help you collect more balls. If you hit enough pyramids without missing any, plus you don’t get hit by objects, you get to throw more balls at once, which ups your chances of not dying/running out of balls.

The game is easy to understand, but does take a little practice. Once you get the hang of it, you are instantly addicted.

Smash Hit is free to download, but features a single IAP to unlock a save feature, which is a must-have feature if you plan on playing the game more than once.

3. AirFighters Pro ($4.99)

AirFighters Pro hit Google Play just last week, and over this past weekend, I was lounging on the couch flying through the skies in my fighter jet. Claimed to be one of the best flight simulation games ever released for mobile devices, the game delivers a highly-detailed world to fly in, complete with real-world airports which you can land and take off from.

After completing the game’s tutorial, which gives you a basic idea at flying the aircrafts, landing and taking off, and dog fighting, you can choose to enter the game’s missions. These missions put you up against the best fighter planes in the world, with many of the missions being quite difficult.

As stated in my post about the game, my main gripe with flight sim games are the controls. To my joy, this game actually has fantastic graphics, as well as superb flight controls.

The game does come with a premium price tag of $4.99, but if flight simulation is your guilty pleasure, then you should love it.

4. Cut the Rope 2 (Free)

What is there to actually say – it’s Cut the Rope! After years, we finally have a true sequel to Om Nom’s adventures, and in true fashion, the game is quite good. It’s the same rope cutting goodness that was featured in the last couple of titles, except now, Om Nom is out in an open world. He must go through jungles, junkyards, and many more environments to find his beloved candy.

However, there is a downside to this game. The developers have implemented an insane set of IAPs, which deliver more time to play, different outfits for Om Nom, and a ton more extra in-game content. It’s a lame move, but we understand why they do it. Instead, we truly wish there was an option to buy the game outright, which would remove ads, unlock all content, and just let us play the game we love. Oh well.

Go grab it for free off of Google Play.

5. Out There ($4.99)

The last game I would like to cover for our list is Out There. When released, this game pretty much consumed my Android life. With the overall gripe that I can never beat the game and only do a little better each time, this game keeps me coming back for more frustration; time and time again.

In Out There, the Earth is dying. In search of more resources for our planet, an astronaut is sent out to the furthest parts of our solar system, only to awake in a distant part of the galaxy. His mission has changed – he must now find a way back to Earth. You would think that this would be an impossible task, and let me tell you, it pretty much is.

From my time with it, I can tell you that the only way to beat this game is with luck. As you explore different worlds, you must hope to come across friendly aliens who deliver goods to you, as well as make sure you don’t run out of fuel, oxygen, or take heavy damage from exploring the galaxy. With so many ways to die or run out of fuel, you will find yourself becoming highly frustrated with this game. But please, don’t lose hope.

The game comes with a $4.99 price tag. It might seem high, but if you love space and exploring new worlds, then this should be right up your alley.
