OnePlus Announces One Availability, Launches April 23

In a conspicuously timed announcement, OnePlus, the company founded by former Oppo executive Pete Lau, revealed that it will launch its first smartphone on April 23.

The handset, called the One, certainly seems to fulfill Lau’s promise of top-tier specifications. The smartphone sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, a 3,100 mAh non-removable battery, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 6-megapixel front-facing camera.

Uniquely, the One will run a customized version of CyanogenMod and feature replaceable “StyleSwap” covers in silk, sandstone, denim, bamboo, and Kevlar designs.

As always, OnePlus was mum on carrier availability and pricing. If the company manages to support nine-band LTE and hits its sub-$500 off-contract retail target, though, the One may have a fighting chance against giants LG and HTC.
