Samsung and PayPal Team Up to Make Use of the Galaxy S5’s Fingerprint Scanner

Yesterday’s announcement of the Galaxy S5’s fingerprint scanner was exciting, but PayPal had something else in store. Samsung introduced fingerprint authentication for mobile payments and PayPal is jumping on board.

PayPal is one of the most trusted names in online buying and selling and them announcing their support of Samsung’s new venture is a big one. Adding in this fingerprint technology will allow PayPal users to log into their account without remembering any passwords. This new addition will work for in-store and mobile transactions, so wherever you buy you can be sure that you are safe.

For those worried about their fingerprint being sent to PayPal, they explained the system “a unique encrypted key that allows PayPal to verify the identity of the customer without having to store any biometric information on PayPal’s servers.”

PayPal says that this new feature will be going live in April and at the start will be accessible in 26 markets worldwide including the US, UK and Australia to name a few. With PayPal’s global reach you can expect that number to grow quickly.
