This morning from MWC, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 801 processor, a bump up in the lineup from the very popular Snapdragon 800 silicon. It’s not as big of a jump like the Snapdragon 805, which was showcased at CES in January, but Qualcomm states they added performance boosts to all aspects of the processor.
Qualcomm does just fine at detailing the changes in the 801 compared to the 800, so take a peek below at an excerpt from their blog.
Like the Snapdragon 800 processor, the Snapdragon 801 processor includes integrated 4G LTE CAT4 and 802.11ac Wi-Fi for smooth connectivity, a quad core Krait 400 CPU with speeds of up to 2.5 GHz per core for best-in-class processing performance, and an Adreno 330 GPU for premium graphics, all while maintaining industry-leading battery performance.
In the Snapdragon 801 processor, Qualcomm Technologies has boosted the performance of these key processing engines, including the CPU, GPU, DSP, camera sensor and memory components.
According to Qualcomm, the 801 will be commercially available this quarter, which means it’s quite possible this chip could be in the Galaxy S5, and it is already confirmed to be in the new Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 tablet.
